In a moment of complete absentmindedness I lifted the red-hot lid off a pan. And very quickly dropped it again after my entire hand had a shock spasm. I spent the next ten minutes with my three singed fingers under the faucet and as Galena related, she shortly joined me ;). I had just a moment before handed the mitt to Galena when I turned from the sink and saw her lift the _very_ hot lid with her bare hand just as I had done. My (too late) verbal warning and her hand's own shock spasm and the next 5 sec. found us with both of our left hands under the sink in a midst of giggles at our stupidity and ows because of our pain. Three hours later the nerves in my blistered finger-tips are still screaming. Even though I kept my left hand in ice water the entire time I was playing through the top part of a Beethoven movement.
